Dolphins drop a heartbreaker to Mount Saint Mary in five games
Flaherty posts 17 kills, 16 digs
10/23/2007 - RIVERDALE, NY – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Women’s Volleyball team dropped a hard fought match to Skyline Conference rival Mount Saint Mary 3-2 on Tuesday night. Scores of the match were 30-32, 30-24, 30-23, 22-30, and 13-15 in favor of the Blue Knights. Mount Saint Vincent senior Meghan Flaherty (Yonkers, NY) continued her strong play with 17 kills and 16 digs in the match.

Flaherty was the team leader in kills and was one of five Dolphin players in double figures in digs. She also added three service aces and an assist. Freshman Christina Pierre (Bronx, NY) also had a strong match for the Mount, totaling 11 kills and contributing a team high two blocks.

Edeana Martinez (Bronx, NY) finished the night with nine kills for the Dolphins to go along with a solo block. Sophomore setter Bridget Leonard (Poughkeepsie, NY) finished with seven kills on the night and added a team high 32 assists. Freshman Irma Nepomuceno (Bronx, NY) contributed seven assists in the match and 17 defensive digs.

Lisa O’Shea (White Plains, NY) finished with a match high 21 digs for Mount Saint Vincent, while Tara Mead (Pearl River, NY) was right behind with 19. Leonard rounded out the five in double figures with 12 digs.

For Mount Saint Mary, Amanda Carfora paced everyone with a match high 31 kills, to compliment 16 defensive digs. Ashley Barnhart had 19 winners in the match for the Blue Knights and also had 16 digs. Katie Toole closed out the night with a match high 47 assists.

With the loss, the Dolphins fall to 12-13 overall on the season and to 3-4 in the Skyline Conference. Mount Saint Vincent will be back in action on Thursday night when they host Sarah Lawrence. Prior to the match the athletic department will honor the two seniors on the squad. The match is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m. at Hayes Gymnasium.
