Martinez played a strong defensive match for the Dolphins, contributing four solo blocks to go along with her team high 10 kills. Flaherty posted nine service aces in the match to go along with seven defensive digs, while Balch recorded six service aces and six digs for the Mount.
Bridget Leonard (Poughkeepsie, NY) had a team high 19 assists in the contest and also contributed five aces and three digs. Fellow setter Irma Nepomuceno (Bronx, NY) collected 10 assists and had 11 digs, recording her first career double-double.
Lisa O’Shea (White Plains, NY) led the Dolphins with 18 of the team’s 53 digs in the contest. The Dolphins also posted 23 service aces, led by Flaherty’s nine.
With the win, Mount Saint Vincent improves to 9-8 overall on the season and to 6-1 in the Hudson Valley Women’s Athletic Conference. The Dolphins will be back in action on Saturday, October 13 when they return to Skyline Conference play against St. Joseph’s-Long Island and Farmingdale State. The tri-match will be played at St. Joseph’s and will begin at 12:00 p.m.
