St. Joseph’s topples Men’s Soccer
Hernandez scores 11th goal of the season
10/6/2007 - YONKERS, NY – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Men’s Soccer team fell to St. Joseph’s-Long Island on Saturday afternoon 10-1 at Tibbetts Brook Park in Yonkers. Junior forward Mike Hernandez (Ridgefield, NJ) converted a penalty kick in the second half for the Dolphins’ lone tally of the afternoon.

St. Joseph’s got on the board at 19:32 on a tally by Stephan Zaech. The eventual game winner came just under five minutes later on a tally by Adam Rogers. Zaech had a huge afternoon for the Golden Eagles, as he scored three times and added a pair of assists. Gary Incremona added two assists in the game, while reserve Daniel Gannon scored a goal and had an assist.

Hernandez was fouled inside the penalty area at 56:11 and promptly converted the penalty kick for his 11th marker of the season. Hernandez’s 11 goals lead the team and he also holds the team lead in points with 25.

Bill Raftery (Throgs Neck, NY) made seven saves in the contest, including on several one-on-one situations in the contest.

For the game, St. Joseph’s outshot the Dolphins 26-6. Corner kicks were even at three in the match, while fouls were 10-7 against the Golden Eagles.

At 3-7-1 overall on the season and 1-2 in the Skyline, the Mount will be back in action on Wednesday when it host Old Westbury. Kick-off is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. at Tibbetts Brook Park.
