Women’s Volleyball topped by HVWAC Rival St. Joseph’s of Brooklyn
Flaherty, Balch lead the way with seven kills each
9/27/2007 - RIVERDLE, NY – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Women’s Volleyball squad fell for the first time in Hudson Valley Women’s Athletic Conference play on Thursday night. The Dolphins were bested by St. Joseph’s of Brooklyn 3-0 and dropped the match by scores of 28-30, 17-30, and 26-30. Seniors Meghan Flaherty (Yonkers, NY) and Katie Balch (Peekskill, NY) led the way in the match with seven kills each.

In addition to her seven kills, Flaherty posted a pair of service aces and notched five defensive digs. Balch chipped in with nine digs on the night to go along with one total block. Other strong performances were turned in by Edeana Martinez (Bronx, NY) with six kills and two total blocks and Christina Pierre (Bronx, NY) with five winners and three total blocks.

Bridget Leonard (Poughkeepsie, NY) turned in another solid all around match, leading the way with 14 assists for the Dolphins. She also totaled two service aces, five digs, and a kill. Irma Nepomuceno (Bronx, NY) finished the night with eight assists, two kills, and eight defensive digs.

The Lady Bears were led by Marzena Stadinicka and Magdalena Wiecek who finished with 10 and 14 kills, respectively. Jamie Mascetti finished up with a match high 27 assists, seven service aces, and 13 digs.

The Dolphins fall to 7-8 overall on the season and 5-1 in the HVWAC with the loss. They will return to the court on Tuesday, October 3 when they take on Skyline foe Purchase. The road match will begin at 7:00 p.m.
