Post-Master's Advanced Certificate Programs

 

The Graduate Nursing Program at the College of Mount Saint Vincent offers three post-master's advanced certificate programs. Adult Nurse Practitioner:

The adult nurse practitioner program provides, for the nurse who already has a Master's Degree in Nursing, the opportunity to acquire an in-depth theoretical understanding of advanced nursing practice and the skills and knowledge to function as an adult nurse practitioner. Graduates will also be eligible to sit for the American Nurse Credentialing Center and the American Academy of Nurse Practitioner certification examinations.

Family Nurse Practitioner:

The family nurse practitioner program has been designed for nurses who already hold a Master's degree in Nursing. The program provides nurses with the opportunity to acquire an in-depth, theoretical understanding of advanced nursing practice, and graduates of this program will be eligible to sit for the American Nurse Credentialing Center and the American Academy of Nurse Practitioner certification examinations.

Admission Requirements:

In order to gain admission to either the Adult Nurse Practitioner or the Family Nurse Practitioner Advanced Certificate Programs, the applicant must meet the following criteria:
  • Obtained a Master's Degree in Nursing;
  • Hold a current RN license;
  • Have at least one year of recent professional nursing practice;
  • Submit a completed application form and pay the application fee. Copies of the application can be obtained through the School of Professional and Continuing Studies;
  • Submit one professional or academic reference and official college transcripts of all undergraduate and graduate work to the School of Professional and Continuing Studies at 6301 Riverdale Avenue, Administration Building, Suite 304, Riverdale, NY  10471;
  • Interview with the Graduate Program Coordinator or the Chair of the Nursing Department.

Nurse Educator:

The nurse educator program has been approved by the New York State Education Department, and provides for nurses who hold a Master's degree in Nursing or a health related field, the opportunity to acquire an in-depth theoretical understanding of the nurse educator role. Graduates of the nurse educator program will have successfully achieved the program outcomes for nurse educator, which are congruent with the National League for Nursing core competencies for nurse educators.

Admission Requirements:

In order to be considered for admission to the Nurse Educator Advanced Certificate Program, the applicant must meet the following criteria:

  • Obtained a Master's Degree in Nursing or other health related area with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0;
  • Holds a current registered nurse license and have one year of recent professional nursing practice;
  • Eligible to practice as a registered nurse in the state of New York;
  • Submit a completed application form and pay the application fee;
  • Submit a professional reference and all official college transcripts;
  • Interview with the Director of the Post-Masters Degree Nurse Educator Certificate Program.
