Baseball drops 8-7 heartbreaker to Panthers during thriller between future Skyline foes
Dolphins allow four unearned ninth innings runs to allow walk-off win; Munroe, Cuozzo each go 2 for 4; Dolphins finish with CSI on Tuesday
5/4/2007 - (Purchase, NY) - Sophomore Josh Cuozzo (Westbury, NY/Clarke HS) and junior Zach Munroe (Milford, CT/Foran HS) each had two hits and a run scored, but the Mount Saint Vincent Baseball team lost an 8-7 heartbreaker to Purchase College on Friday during a game played at Purchase. With the loss during a battle between soon-to-be Skyline Conference rivals, the Mount's fourth straight, Mount Saint Vincent is now 10-19 with one game to play.
Junior Nick Canzano went 1 for 2 with a crucial RBI and a run scored, but the Mount Saint Vincent Baseball team lost its fourth game in a row, a heartbreaking 8-7 set-back to Purchase College on Friday during a game played at Purchase. With the loss, Mount Saint Vincent is now 11-19 and will host the College of Staten Island for their 2007 finale on Tuesday at 4:00 p.m. at Purchase College.

After Purchase jumped out to a 2-0 lead, Mount Saint Vincent gradually grabbed leads as large as 6-3 and 7-4 thanks to eight Panther errors, and when Munroe doubled home Joe Blackford (Stewartsville, NJ/Warren Hills Regional HS) in the top of the ninth inning, the Mount held a three-run lead, and it appeared as if they had a victory secured. However, in the bottom of the ninth inning, the bottom fell out, and Purchase rallied for an improbable win.

An error opened the bottom of the ninth inning, and with one out, Purchase loaded the bases. Two singles later, and it was a 7-6 game. With still only one out, a second Dolphin error allowed two runs to score and Purchase sealed a walk-off victory.

Overall, the Mount Saint Vincent pitching staff allowed only four earned runs over nine innings, and junior Jon O'Leary (Bohemia, NY/Connetquot HS) turned in one of his finest performances of the season, allowing only three runs over five innings of work. Also for the Mount, juniors Eddie Park (Westbury, NY/Clarke HS) and Logan Mauzy (Homer, NY/Homer Central HS) each drove in a run.

Mount Saint Vincent returns to action on Tuesday, May 8 when they host the College of Staten Island for their 2007 finale. The 4:00 p.m. game will be played at Purchase College.
