Softball blanks CNR as Gonzalez pitches first career no-hitter
Freshman strikes out five and allows only two baserunners; O'Shea blasts sixth home run of 2007; Dolphins lock up #2 seed for HVWAC Playoffs
5/2/2007 - (Yonkers, NY) - Freshman Megan Gonzalez (Fishers, IN/Hamilton South Eastern HS) pitched her first career no-hitter, striking out five and allowing only two baserunners, and fellow freshman Lisa O'Shea (White Plains, NY/Our Lady of Victory) went 2 for 3 with three RBI's, including her sixth home run of the 2007 season as the Mount Saint Vincent Softball team locked up the #2 seed for this weekend's Hudson Valley Women's Athletic Conference (HVWAC) Softball Championship Tournament with a 10-0 win over the College of New Rochelle during a game played at Mount Saint Vincent. With the win, Mount Saint Vincent improves to 13-14 for the 2007 season.
Freshman Megan Gonzalez pitched her first career no-hitter, a five-inning gem to lead the Mount Saint Vincent Softball team to a 10-0 win over the College of New Rochelle on Wednesday during a game played at Mount Saint Vincent. The win locks up the #2 seed for Saturday's HVWAC Softball Championships.

On Senior Day where seniors Jessica Piccoli (Yonkers, NY/Saunders HS), Gina Angolillo (West Harrison, NY/Harrison HS), and Katie Cusmiani (Belle Harbor, NY/Archbishop Molloy) were honored prior to their final home game, the Mount was in top form as they dominated the visiting Blue Angels. A 2-0 Dolphins lead at the end of two innings was extended to 3-0 thanks to an RBI single by Angolillo in the third inning, and a seven-run fourth inning all but put the game away. O'Shea ripped her team-leading sixth home run of the season in the fourth inning, and Gonzalez knocked in two runs as well. Overall, seven Dolphins drove in runs as the Mount pounded nine hits over only four innings.

The run support was more than enough for Gonzalez, who was simply spectacular while allowing only one ball to leave the infield over five innings. Gonzalez's no-hitter was only the second during the last three years for Mount Saint Vincent.

Mount Saint Vincent returns to action on Saturday, May 5 when they compete in the HVWAC Semifinals against an opponent to be determined. As the #2 seed, Mount Saint Vincent will play in the 1:00 p.m. game. All games Saturday will be played at Sarah Lawrence College in Bronxville, NY.  A fan bus will leave from Hayes at 12 noon for all interested in attending the event to support the Dolphins.
