Junior Zach Munroe went 3 for 5 with an RBI and a run scored, including his first home run of the 2007 season, but the Mount Saint Vincent Baseball team lost its second straight game, 13-7 to John Jay College on Thursday during a game played at Westchester Community College in Valhalla, New York. The Mount heads to St. Joseph's (LI) for a 1:00 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday.

For the second straight game, the story was defense as the Dolphins yielded six errors and nine unearned runs. The Bloodhounds scored two unearned runs in the top of the first inning to jump ahead, but the Dolphins cut the deficit in half an inning later when a Vinny Prestopino (Bronx, NY/Salesian) sacrifice fly scored Al Schor (Norwalk, CT/Brien McMahon HS). After John Jay scored two more times in the top of the fourth inning to make it 4-1, a Tanner Munroe RBI double made it 4-2, but that was as close as the Dolphins would get. John Jay scored six runs in the top of the fifth inning and two more in the top of the sixth to lead 12-2 and all but put the game away.

Mount Saint Vincent did score five of the game's final six runs to make it closer, but the Dolphins were unable to catch up. Zach Munroe hit his first home run of the 2007 season in the bottom of the sixth inning, and sophomore Joe Motta (Brooklyn, NY/Xaverian) went 2 for 2 with two runs scored.

Mount Saint Vincent returns to action on Saturday for a crucial weekend of Skyline Conference competition as their playoff hopes hang in the balance of four conference games. On Saturday, the Mount travels to St. Joseph's (LI) for a 1:00 p.m. doubleheader. On Sunday, the Dolphins will travel out to Long Island again to square off with Farmingdale State for a 6:00 p.m. twinbill.
