Defense was the story of the day during the first-ever meeting between Mount Saint Vincent and Ramapo - currently tied for second place in the powerhouse NJAC and ranked 24th in the nation- as Mount Saint Vincent allowed a team-record 13 unearned runs after seven errors. The sloppy defense allowed the Roadrunners (28-8) to lead 2-0 after the first inning and 9-1 after three innings to virtually put the game away. Mount Saint Vincent scored its first run in the top of the third inning when a Schor ground out brought home freshman Joe Blackford (Stewartsville, NJ/Warren Hills Regional HS). Down 15-1 enterting the top of the seventh inning, the Mount scored two more times as both Schor and junior Vinny Prestopino (Bronx, NY/Salesian) drove in runs to make it 15-3. However, Ramapo scored five runs during the final two innings for the final score.
Brestolli went 1 for 2 with a walk and a run scored and pitchers John Olsen (Seaford, NY/Seaford HS) and Anthony Palandro (Westbury, NY/Clarke HS) did not allow a single run in relief.
Mount Saint Vincent returns to action on Thursday, April 26 when they host John Jay College at 3:30 p.m. The game will take place at Westchester Community College in Valhalla, New York.
