Softball swept by Mariners in final Skyline doubleheader of the season
Gonzalez enjoys strong performances on mound, Dolphins held to four hits over two games
4/24/2007 - (Riverdale, NY) - Freshman Megan Gonzalez (Fishers, IN/Hamilton South Eastern HS) allowed a combined 12 earned runs over two games and senior Jessica Piccoli (Yonkers, NY/Saunders) and freshman Karissa Koerner (Bay Shore, NY/Brentwood HS) continued to hit the ball well, but the Mount Saint Vincent Softball team dropped both ends of a doubleheader to USMMA-Kings Point on Tuesday, 13-0 and 10-0 during games played at Mount Saint Vincent. With the losses, Mount Saint Vincent is now 12-14 overall and finishes 4-12 in Skyline Conference play.
Junior Meghan Flaherty connected for one of only four Dolphin hits, but the Mount Saint Vincent Softball team lost both ends of a doubleheader, 13-0 and 10-0 on Tuesday during games played at Mount Saint Vincent. The Dolphins host the College of New Rochelle on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m.

The opener saw Gonzalez dominate for three innings but struggle for two innings as the game was shortened to five innings due to the deficit of more than eight runs. Gonzalez breezed through the first inning, but allowed five runs during the second inning. After not allowing a run during the third or fourth innings, USMMA rallied for eight runs during the top of the fifth inning to all but put the game away. Mount Saint Vincent was held to two hits and did not draw a walk as Piccoli and junior Meghan Flaherty (Yonkers, NY/Yonkers HS) each registered singles for the Mount.

Game two was a competitive affair for much of the contest as Gonzalez held USMMA to a single run through three innings, but during the fourth and fifth innings the bottom fell out for the Mount. Thanks to three Dolphin errors, USMMA scored four runs during the fourth inning and five during the fifth to extend the lead to 10 and clinch the game. Koerner and sophomore Dana McGuire (Setauket, NY/Ward Melville HS) each registered hits for the Mount, but the Dolphins were held to only three base-runners.

Mount Saint Vincent returns to action on Wednesday, April 25 when they host the College of New Rochelle at 3:30 p.m.
