Baseball explodes for 32 runs during doubleheader sweep of USMMA-Kings Point
Dolphins see winning streak extend to season-high four games as MSV continues Skyline Conference playoff hunt; travel to Ramapo on Tuesday
4/22/2007 - (Riverdale, NY) - Nine games ago, it would have been hard to fathom, but the Mount Saint Vincent Baseball team is officially in the hunt for their first-ever trip to the Skyline Conference playoffs. They still have an uphill path to reach the post-season, but after Sunday's 15-5 and 17-7 sweep of USMMA-Kings Point, the Dolphins have now won seven of their last nine games and as the final games of the 2007 season approach, the Mount is in sixth place in the Conference, only three games back of a playoff berth. There is little room for error as the final games come, but the way the Dolphins played on Sunday, they may not need any.

The first game was put away almost immediately as the Mount scored seven times during the first two innings and cruised to victory. The key blow was a two-out, two-run single by Scott Taylor (Jersey City, NJ/St. Peters College) that extended a 2-0 edge into a 4-0 lead. The Mount eventually led by as many as 15-2 before a late rally by USMMA made things closer. Taylor went 3 for 4 with 4 RBI's, while junior Zach Munroe (Milford, CT/Foran HS) and freshman Anthony Brestolli (Wyckoff, NY/Don Bosco Prep) each drove in three runs.

The nightcap was more of the same as the Mount led 8-0 after three innings and never looked back. Junior Al Schor (Norwalk, CT/Brien McMahon HS) hit his third home run of the season, while freshman Joe Blackford (Stewartsville, NJ/Warren Hills Regional HS) went 4 for 5 with three RBI's and three runs scored. Also for the Mount, Munroe and sophomore Nick Triolo (Homer, NY/Homer Central HS) each had three hits and two RBI's.

Mount Saint Vincent returns to action on Tuesday, April 24 when they travel to  Ramapo College, ranked 24th in the nation.
