Freshman Megan Gonzalez allowed only four earned runs over two games, but the Mount Saint Vincent Softball team was swept during a doubleheader by Farmingdale State, 2-0 and 2-0 during games played at Farmingdale State on Sunday. The Dolphins return home on Tuesday to host USMMA-Kings Point at 4:00 p.m. |
The games were nearly identical to one another as Gonzalez kept the Rams on their heels throughout the twin-bill, but during both games her counterpart was slightly better as the Mount combined for only seven total hits during two games. Afet allowing two runs during the first inning of the opener, Gonzalez settled in and pitched a gem as she allowed only three hits the rest of the way and struck out three while not walking a batter. But the Mount only registered three hits during the loss.
The nightcap saw Farmingdale State score runs during the first and fourth innings, but otherwise Gonzalez was terrific. She allowed only eight hits and struck out two during another fine outing, but the Mount was held to only four hits.
Despite the losses, the Mount proved once again to be an overwhelming improvement over a year ago as their 10 Skyline Conference losses have been by an average of 3.5 runs per game, and the have lost seven Skyline Conference games by three runs or less.
Mount Saint Vincent returns to action on Tuesday, April 24 when they host USMMA-Kings Point at 4:00 p.m.
