Baseball sweeps doubleheader with Maritime in 'Battle of the Bronx'
Schor goes 4 for 6 during torrid twinbill; Palandro pitches another gem during night-cap; Dolphins host USMMA-Kings Point on Sunday
4/21/2007 - (Old Westbury, NY) - Juniors Al Schor (Norwalk, CT/Brien McMahon HS) and Zach Munroe (Milford, CT/Foran HS) enjoyed outstanding days at the plate and fellow junior Tony Palandro (Westbury, NY/Clarke HS) pitched yet another gem as the Mount Saint Vincent Baseball team swept a doubleheader from Skyline Conference rival Maritime College, 11-8 and 7-2 on Saturday during games played at SUNY Old Westbury. With the sweep, Mount Saint Vincent is now 7-13 overall and 5-7 in Skyline Conference play.

The opener was a back-and-forth affair as Mount Saint Vincent jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning as Schor and freshman Joe Blackford (Stewartsville, NJ/Warren Hills Regional HS) both drove in runs. However, in the bottom of the second inning, Maritime scored five runs, only two of which were earned, and led by three heading into the third inning. It was the top of the third when the Mount blew the game open with a seven-run outburst as the seven runs were driven by seven different Dolphins. Maritime scored twice in the bottom of the third inning to make it 9-7, but Maritime would get no closer.

Junior Tony Palandro pitched a complete-game gem, allowing only two earned runs on five hits while striking out a career-high nine batters during the night-cap as the Mount Saint Vincent Baseball team swept a doubleheader from Maritime College, 11-8 and 7-2 on Saturday during games played at SUNY Old Westbury. Mount Saint Vincent returns home on Sunday for a 12:00 p.m. doubleheader with USMMA-Kings Point.

Schor went 2 for 4 with an RBI and a run scored, while Blackford also went 2 for 4 and drove in three runs. Sophomore Nate Todd (Holyoke, MA/Holyoke HS) pitched a complete game to earn the win as he struck out five while walking only three.

The night-cap was all Mount Saint Vincent as Palandro was magnificent once again. Pitching for the first time since throwing a gem during an upset win over Manhattanville on April 11, Palandro went the distance, allowing only two earned runs on five hits, while striking out a career-high nine batters. Mount Saint Vincent led 3-2 heading into the fifth inning, but a three-run Dolphins rally put the game out of reach as Schor, Munroe, and Vinny Prestopino (Bronx, NY/Salesian) drove in runs. Four different Dolphins had two hits, and Munroe and Prestopino each drove in two runs.

Mount Saint Vincent returns to action on Sunday, April 22 when they host USMMA-Kings Point for a Skyline Conference doubleheader at 12:00 p.m. The games will be played at Van Cortlandt Park.
