Men's Tennis swept in doubleheader by Bloodhounds/Macs
Dolphins' second/third doubles teams capture wins
4/20/2007 - (Riverdale, NY) - Moments after being swept, 9-0 by Skyline Conference powerhouse Yeshiva University during the first end of a Tennis doubleheader on Friday afternoon, the Mount Saint Vincent Men's Tennis team took to the court and engaged in one of their most exciting matches of the 2007 season in Friday's nightcap, but ultimately lost a 5-2 thriller to John Jay College during a darkness-shortened match played at Mount Saint Vincent. With the loss, the Mount is now 0-8 overall, and 0-6 in Skyline Conference play.

While Yeshiva easily swept the Mount to lock up second place in the Skyline Conference for the 2007 regular season, John Jay had a far more difficult time as the Mount went 2-1 during doubles play. After the Mount's top team lost 8-2, the #2 team of junior Nicholas Sens-Castet (Brooklyn, NY/St. John's Prep) and Tristan Franz (Brooklyn, NY/Xavier) scored an exciting 9-7 win. Moments later, the #3 team of Michael Maurer (Hampton, NH/Winnaconnet HS) and Joe Nickerson (Summit, NJ/Hudson Catholic) scored an 8-6 win of their own, giving the Mount five wins at third doubles during eight matches this season.

The lead after doubles play gave the Mount some hope heading into singles action, but John Jay was able to capture the first four singles spots to clinch the match. The most exciting match was at #3 singles where Sens-Castet lost a 6-4, 7-5 thriller. Nickerson was solid at #4 singles, losing 6-4, 6-0. Also for the Mount, junior Garret Cooke (Kingston, RI/Bishop Hendricken) also played well, losing 6-4, 6-1.

Mount Saint Vincent returns to action on Sunday, April 22 when they host another doubleheader. At 11:00 a.m. the Mount squares off with Skyline Conference foe USMMA-Kings Point. At 3:30 the Dolphins host Hudson Valley Men's Athletic Conference (HVMAC) rival, Cooper Union.
