Softball extends winning streak to three with doubleheader sweep of Maritime College
Piccoli goes 5 for 8 during two games, Troncoso hits third home run of 2007; Dolphins travel to St. Joseph's (Brooklyn) for huge HVWAC clash on Thursday
4/18/2007 - (Riverdale, NY) - Senior Jessica Piccoli (Yonkers, NY/Saunders HS) went 5 for 8 over two games with four RBI's and two runs scored, and sophomore Jillian Troncoso (West Haverstraw, NY/North Rockland HS) and freshman Lisa O'Shea (White Plains, NY/Our Lady of Victory) each hit home runs as the Mount Saint Vincent Softball team earned a doubleheader sweep of Maritime College, 10-2 and 7-1 on Wednesday during games played at Mount Saint Vincent. With their third straight win, Mount Saint Vincent is now 8-8 overall and 3-7 in Skyline Conference play.
Sophomore Jillian Troncoso belted her third home run of the 2007 season as the Mount Saint Vincent Softball team swept a doubleheader with Maritime College, 10-2 and 7-1 on Wednesday at Mount Saint Vincent. The wins improve the Dolphins to 8-8 overall and 3-7 in Skyline Conference play.

The opener proved to be a nailbiter for much of the game as the Dolphins held the slimmest of leads, 3-2 heading into the bottom of the fifth inning. However, a seven-run fifth inning invoked the mercy rule, and the game was ended despite it being closer than the final score indicated. After small ball scored four of the Mount's runs in the final inning, a three-run triple by Piccoli ended the game. Piccoli went 3 for 4 with the three RBI's, and freshman Karissa Koerner (Bay Shore, NY/Brentwood HS) went 2 for 2 with two runs scored. Also for the Mount, freshman pitcher Megan Gonzalez (Fishers, IN/Hamilton South Eastern) allowed only one earned runs over five innings and did not walk a batter.

The second game proved to be competitive once again with the Mount scoring runs in every inning after the first inning as eight different Dolphins combined for 10 hits. Piccoli recorded two more hits, as did senior Gina Angolillo (West Harrison, NY/Harrison HS), and both players scored twice. The key hits for the Mount came in the fourth inning, when Troncoso launched her third home run of the 2007 season, and an inning later when O'Shea's blast scored two runs and essentially put the game out of reach. Gonzalez was outstanding once again as she pitched a complete game, allowing only one earned run while striking out four.

Mount Saint Vincent returns to action on Thursday, April 18 when they travel to St. Joseph's (Brooklyn) for a 5:00 p.m. Hudson Valley Women's Athletic Conference (HVWAC) doubleheader. A win would keep the Mount undefeated and in first place in the HVWAC.
