Baseball splits doubleheader with Old Westbury; now 5-12, 3-6 Skyline Conference
Russo, Schor provide offensive heroics during 16-10 victory in opener; Dolphins travel to Farmingdale State on Sunday
4/14/2007 - (Old Westbury, NY) - Junior Al Schor (Norwalk, CT/Brien McMahon HS) hit his second home run of the 2007 season, and sophomore Brendan Russo (Westbury, NY/Clarke HS) drove in four runs as the Mount Saint Vincent Baseball team earned a doubleheader split with Old Westbury, winning the opener 16-10 and losing the nightcap 6-0 during games played at SUNY Old Westbury. With the split, Mount Saint Vincent is now 5-12 overall and 3-6 in Skyline Conference play.

The opener proved to be a wild affair as the Mount scored five times during the first inning, and led by as many as 11-2 after six innings before an incredible Panther comeback made things interesting. With the Dolphins seemingly cruising, Old Westbury scored four times during the top of the seventh inning to make it 11-6. The Mount rallied for five more runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to make it 16-6 before Old Westbury scored four more times in the top of the ninth inning to make it 16-10. Sophomore Nate Todd (Holyoke, MA/Holyoke HS) earned the win as he pitched six solid innings and allowed only two earned runs. Schor went 2 for 3 with two RBI's and three runs scored, while Russo was 1 for 3 with four RBI's and a run scored. Also for the Mount, junior Zach Munroe (Milford, CT/Foran HS) went 1 for 3 with three RBI's and a run scored.

The nightcap was all Old Westbury as the Panthers took advantage of three Dolphin errors to score three unearned runs and cruise to victory as the Mount managed only five hits. The loss put a damper on a fine pitching performance by junior Ryan Strub (Bohemia, NY/Connetquot HS), who pitched six innings and allowed only two earned runs.

Mount Saint Vincent returns to action on Sunday, April 15 when they travel to Farmingdale State for a 12:00 p.m. doubleheader.
