Men's Lacrosse dominates Mitchell College for big win
Downes scores four goals; O'Dougherty has four points as Dolphins outscore Pequots 5-2 during both halves to scored second win of 2007; MSV travels to Centenary on Wednesday
4/14/2007 - (Valhalla, NY) - Sophomore Billy Downes (Barkhamstead, CT/Northwest Catholic) scored a season-high four goals, and sophomore Ryan O'Dougherty (Morristown, NJ/Morristown HS) added two goals and two assists as the Mount Saint Vincent Men's Lacrosse team earned a 10-4 win over Mitchell College on Saturday during a game played at Westchester Community College in Valhalla, New York. With the win, Mount Saint Vincent is now 2-10 for the 2007 season.

Downes opened the scoring at 9:42 of the first quarter when he converted a beautiful passing play from O'Dougherty to give the Mount the lead. Four minutes later, O'Dougherty found the back of the net to make it 2-0, a lead that was extended to 3-0 with 1:43 to play in the first quarter when Downes scored unassisted. A Mitchell goal with five seconds remaining in the first quarter made it 3-1. Mitchell (0-9) made it as close as 3-2 with a goal with 12:30 to play in the second quarter, but the Mount rallied to extend the lead to 5-2 at halftime as goals by Corey Petruccelli (Stratford, CT/St. Joseph's) at 9:41 and O'Dougherty at 3:56 gave the Mount some insurance heading into halftime.

The Dolphins put the game away with a 2-0 third quarter as goals by Downes and Marco Segna (Mount Vernon, NY/Mount Saint Michael) made it 7-2. The Mount would extend the lead to as many as 10-2 before two late Mitchell goals made it closer.

Junior Tom Egan (Nyack, NY/Nyack HS) earned the win in goal, making 10 saves.

Mount Saint Vincent returns to action on Wednesday, April 18 when they travel to Centenary College for a 4:00 p.m. Skyline Conference match-up.
