Men's Tennis drops 2007 HVMAC opener to Gryphons, 8-1
Franz, Cangiano win again at third doubles; Maurer enjoys solid effort in singles play; Dolphins host Manhattanville on Saturday
4/13/2007 - (Riverdale, NY) - Junior Vincent Cangiano (Green Brook, NJ/Watchung Hills HS) and sophomore Tristan Franz (Brooklyn, NY/Xavier) won for the third time this season at second doubles, and junior Michael Maurer (Hampton, NH/Winnaconnet HS) enjoyed a solid effort at sixth singles, but the Mount Saint Vincent Men's Tennis team lost its 2007 Hudson Valley Men's Athletic Conference (HVMAC) opener, 8-1 to Sarah Lawrence on Friday during a match played at Mount Saint Vincent. With the loss, Mount Saint Vincent is now 0-5 overall and 0-1 in HVMAC play.

Doubles play set the tone for the match as the Mount's top-two doubles teams fell 8-2 and 8-1, respectively, before the Mount got a lift from Cangiano and Franz, who have been outstanding in the #3 slot this season. However, despite outstanding performances by Cangiano, Maurer, and junior Garrett Cooke (Wickford, RI/Bishop Hendricken) in singles competition, the Dolphins were unable to muster a rally in singles play. Cangiano lost 10-5 at #4 singles, while Cooke fell 10-4 at #3, and Maurer lost a 10-6 battle in the #6 singles position.

Mount Saint Vincent returns to action on Saturday, April 14 when they host Manhattanville College for a 4:00 p.m. Skyline Conference match-up.
