Palandro, Schor lead Baseball to upset win over Skyline Conference power Manhattanville
Dolphins allow two earned runs en route to second straight win; MSV hosts Old Westbury on Saturday
4/11/2007 - (Purchase, NY) - Moments after the Mount Saint Vincent Baseball team scored its second consecutive upset win, a 5-3 stunner over Skyline Conference powerhouse Manhattanville College on Wednesday at Manhattanville, one thing was clear: The playoff hunt has officially begun for the Mount. Despite a 4-11 overall record and a 2-5 mark in Skyline Conference play, by virtue of consecutive wins over post-season regulars Centenary and Manhattanville, it is clear that the Mount is a team to beat as the home stretch of the 2007 season begins and the playoff push has just become very interesting. Mount Saint Vincent scored the win on Wednesday using three qualities they did not see during an eight-game losing streak that seemed to put the Dolphins out of playoff contention: Great pitching, excellent defense, and clutch hitting. With a dozen conference games remaining, should the Dolphins continue this trend, their first ever post-season bid is not out of the question.
Junior Tony Palandro pitched six shutout innings and struck out six while walking only three to lead the Mount Saint Vincent Baseball team to a 5-3 upset win over Manhattanville College on Wednesday afternoon at Manhattanville. With the win, Mount Saint Vincent is now 4-11 overall and 2-5 in Skyline Conference play, but has won two straight games.

The story of the game on Wednesday was a dominant pitching performance by junior Tony Palandro (Westbury, NY/Clarke HS), who turned in perhaps the finest outing of his career. Palandro pitched six magnificent innings without allowing a run, and he struck out six while walking only three. He left the game with a 3-0 lead that the Mount's bullpen and defense allowed to stand.

Mount Saint Vincent got on the board in the top of the first inning when a Joe Blackford (Stewartsville, NJ/Warren Hills Regional HS) sacrifice fly brought home Anthony Brestolli (Wyckoff, NY/Don Bosco). Junior Vinny Prestopino (Bronx, NY/Salesian) made it 2-0 three innings later when he hit his second home run of the 2007 season. In the fifth inning, the lead was extended to 3-0 thanks to two Manhattanville errors, and an RBI by junior Al Schor (Norwalk, CT/Brien McMahon HS). Mount Saint Vincent all but put the game away in the top of the seventh inning when a Zach Munroe (Milford, CT/Foran HS) single scored Schor to make it 4-0.

Manhattanville scored a run in the bottom of the seventh inning and two more in the bottom of the eighth to make it 4-3, but in the top of the ninth inning, a Schor single brought home Mike Ruckdaschel (East Meadow, NY/East Meadow HS) to provide the Mount some insurance. The run was all the Dolphin bullpen would need as Munroe recorded the final five outs of the game for a save.

Schor went 1 for 3 with two RBI's and a run scored, while Tanner Munroe (Milford, CT/Foran HS) had two hits.

Mount Saint Vincent returns to action on Saturday, April 14 when they host SUNY Old Westbury at 2:00 p.m. The doubleheader will be played at Purchase College.
