Powerhouse Ducks sweep Mount Saint Vincent in Skyline Conference doubleheader
Blackford goes 3 for 4 and drives in two during opener; Ruckdaschel has career game during nightcap
4/1/2007 - (Hoboken, NJ) - The opening weekend of the Skyline Conference play proved to be tough for the Mount Saint Vincent Baseball team as the Dolphins dropped all four games. Despite the losses, the Mount did enough notable things by enough young players during the weekend to prove that they are very much in the mix as conference play heats up. Mount Saint Vincent dropped a doubleheader to Stevens on Sunday, losing 11-4 and 12-6, and are now 2-10 overall and 0-4 in conference play.

The opening game saw junior Jon O'Leary (Bohemia, NY/Connetquot HS) pitch his best five innings of the season as the righty allowed a single run and struck out four during the first five frames, and Mount Saint Vincent had a 4-1 lead heading into the bottom of the sixth, thanks to second inning home runs by junior Logan Mauzy (Homer, NY/Homer Central HS) and freshman Joe Blackford (Stewartsville, NJ/Warren Hills Regional HS) and an RBI in the fifth inning by Tanner Munroe (Milford, CT/Foran HS). However, Stevens exploded for seven runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, and never looked back.

Blackford finished with three hits and two RBI's, while Zach Munroe (Milford, CT/Foran HS) added two hits. O'Leary fell to 0-4, but was brilliant on the mound, despite a tough sixth inning.

The nightcap saw junior Al Schor (Norwalk, CT/Brien McMahon HS) hit a first inning sacrifice fly to give the Mount a 1-0 lead, but Schor's heroics at the plate were only of only a few highlights during the game. Stevens followed up with three runs during the first inning, four more during the second inning, and put the game away. The Mount rallied for two runs during the fifth inning to make it 8-5, but the Ducks scored three more times during the bottom of the fifth. The loss overshadowed a career day by sophomore Mike Ruckdaschel (East Meadow, NY/East Meadow HS), who went 4 for 4, hit a home run, drove in two runs, and scored twice. Schor also had a big game at the plate, driving in three runs. However, four Dolphin pitchers allowed 12 earned runs and 15 total hits.
