Building Our Future: The Capital Campaign
6/28/2005 - At the 2005 Scholarship Tribute Dinner held at the Pierre on June 21, Charles L. Flynn, Jr., President of the College of Mount Saint Vincent, announced Building Our Future, a comprehensive fundraising campaign designed to enable the College to claim its place as a model that other colleges can emulate. The vision of the Campaign is clear—to offer an academic curriculum recognized as equal or superior to those at the finest regional liberal arts colleges in the country.

In his remarks, Dr. Flynn said, "The College of Mount Saint Vincent does work of uncommon importance exceptionally well.  This decade offers opportunities greater than the College has seen in a generation to extend and deepen the quality of what we do and, therefore, what our students can achieve.  To take full advantage of these opportunities will require a significant investment of resources. I offer you the opportunity to support the College's future—and the challenge to build it together."

Of the Campaign Goal of $18 million, $12.5 million has already been raised during the early phases of the Campaign. A variety of programmatic and campus improvement projects has already been completed: the comprehensive renovation of Seton Residence Hall; the reconstruction of the campus roadway; and the renovation and expansion of Maryvale Hall, home of the College’s Fine Arts and Communication programs. These accomplishments are part of a larger set of bold, strategic investments in the College’s physical plant and endowed resources. Other investments include:

  • Comprehensive upgrade of the Science Building laboratories
  • Construction of a state-of-the-art, twenty-four hour Computer Center on the ground level of Elizabeth Seton library
  • Renovation of the Recreation Center and creation of a dedicated athletic field
  • Construction of a new Residence Hall
  • Creation of the Nursing Learning Resource Center

At the Dinner, Maureen Henegan, Chair of the Board of Trustees, announced that the Board had voted unanimously to name the new Residence Hall for Nick Mastronardi and his wife Valerie, who is an alumna and current Trustee.  Henegan said of the Mastronardis, “Their support, service, and dedication, not only to the College, but also to so many organizations in the Archdiocese of New York, are impressive and uncommon. We at the College of Mount Saint Vincent are deeply grateful to you both, and we’re proud of you, and we’re so pleased to honor you both.
