NJCU (6-7) jumped out to a 3-0 lead after the first inning and led 4-1 after two innings before Mount Saint Vincent - thanks in part to 14 walks by the NJCU pitching staff - scored eight unanswered runs during the third through sixth innings and led 9-4 heading into the bottom of the six inning. Cuozzo drove in both of his RBI's in the fourth inning with a bases-loaded single, and Ruckdaschel also drove in a pair of runs with a bases-loeaded single of his own during a four-run sixth inning. However, Mount Saint Vincent did not score a run during the final three innings and finished the game with six hits.
The Gothic Knights battled back from the 9-4 deficit to make it 9-8 with a run in the bottom of the sixth inning, and three more during the bottom of the seventh, setting up a dramatic finish. During the bottom of the ninth inning, NJCU loaded the bases with two outs against Dolphin sophomore Jon O'Leary (Bohemia, NY/Connetquot HS), and a Josue Martinez pinch-hit double drove in two runs to give the Gothic Knights a walk-off win.
O'Leary dropped to 0-3 after allowing two runs during just over two innings of work, however it was his shutout performance during the seventh and eighth innings that allowed the Mount a chance to win the game.
Mount Saint Vincent returns to action on Saturday, March 31 when they play at home for the first time this season as the Dolphins square off with Mount Saint Mary for a 12:00 p.m. Skyline Conference doubleheader. The game will be played at Van Cortlandt Park.
