Men's Lacrosse hangs tough with Skyline foe Cougars; falls to 1-5 with 8-3 loss
Reynolds scores twice, Egan makes 14 saves; Dolphins travel to USMMA-Kings Point for 12:00 p.m. game on Saturday
3/21/2007 - (Union, NJ) - Junior Jason Reynolds (Centereach, NY/Middle Country HS) scored twice and junior goalie Tom Egan (Nyack, NY/Nyackk HS) made 14 saves, but the Mount Saint Vincent Men's Lacrosse team lost its third straight game, 8-3 to Skyline Conference rival Kean University on Wednesday night during a game played at Kean. Kean broke open an otherwise tight game by scoring the final four goals of the game. With the loss, the Dolphins fall to 1-5 overall and 0-3 in Skyline Conference play, however, their incredible effort in pushing a very strong Kean University team to the limit suggests that the season is perhaps about to turn around.

Despite being outshot 18-5 during the first two quarters, Mount Saint Vincent trailed only 2-0 at halftime as Egan stopped six out of eight shots during the first 30 minutes and the Mount won three of the game's first four face-offs to enjoy a possession advantage during the first half.

After Kean extended the lead to 3-0 to open the second half, things got really interesting late in the third quarter as Reynolds scored unassisted with 5:52 to play in the quarter to make it 3-1. 1:49 later, the deficit was cut to 3-2 when junior Marco Segna (Mount Vernon, NY/Mount Saint Michael) scored a spectacular goal off of an assist by Billy Downes (Barkhamstead, CT/Northwest Catholic) to make it 3-2. However, a Kean goal during the final minute of play in the third quarter extended the lead to 4-2 entering the final stanza.

Reynolds scored an extra man goal with 13:46 to play in the game to make it 4-3, and it appeared as if the biggest upset of the young Skyline Conference season was in the cards, but Kean rallied to score four times during a six-minute span midway through the fourth quarter to extend the lead to five and close the game. Despite the loss, Mount Saint Vincent turned in its finest effort of the season as they won 10 out of 15 face-offs and controlled possession for much of the game. The Dolphins were outshot 44-11 and Kean had a 36-23 edge on ground balls, but the Dolphin defense, led by Egan, held the potent Kean attack in check for much of the game.

Mount Saint Vincent returns to action on Saturday, March 24 when they travel to USMMA-Kings Point at 12:00 p.m. for a Skyline Conference game.
