A Moral Victory: Women's Lacrosse hangs tough with SUNY AC power Golden Eagles but lose 10-3
Horn makes 17 saves, Fleri scores first career goal as Dolphins drop both games during Spring Training trip; return home Tuesday to host Elmira College
3/15/2007 - (Wellington, FL) - When building a program from scratch and trying to the upper echelon of competition that the region has to offer, there are going to be some great nights and some tough nights ... but it seems like almost every night will be a learning experience. Thursday's 10-3 loss to SUNY Brockport by the Mount Saint Vincent Women's Lacrosse team may have been a tough night on the scoreboard, but a closer look at the game revealed something better. In every way, shape, and form, the Mount ran with and in some cases outplayed their SUNY AC foe, holding the powerhouse Golden Eagles off of the scoreboard for more than 18 minutes, and making life difficult throughout. And while Brockport was able to pull away late in the game for a comfortable margin of victory, if there were ever a moral victory, it was Thursday night for Mount Saint Vincent.

Freshman Jackie Horn (Setauket, NY/Ward Melville HS) was the story of the night as her 17 saves (after failing to record a save during the first 23 minutes of an 18-10 loss to Gordon College on Monday night) were the difference during the early going as Mount Saint Vincent carried play. More than 18 minutes into the game, the score was deadlocked 0-0, and Mount Saint Vincent held the edge in shots, ground balls, time of possession, and draw controls, and the Dolphin defense held strong. Three quick goals late in the first half, and a controversial Brockport goal during the final seconds of the opening stanza gave the Golden Eagles a 4-0 halftime lead, but statistcially the game was a wash.

The second half saw the Mount turn their offensive pressure up a notch as goals by junior Cyndi Adams (Mechanicsville, MD/Chopticon HS) and freshman Kelly Martin (North Rockland, NY/North Rockland HS) kept the Mount in pace with Brockport as the Dolphins trailed 6-2 midway through the second half. However, a second controversial goal by the Golden Eagles increased the lead to five and seemed to deflate the Mount. Brockport scored three more times to make it 10-2 before sophomore Megan Fleri (Islip, NY/Islip HS) scored her first career goal - a spectacular tally late in the game to make it 10-3.

With their Spring Training trip to Florida behind them, Mount Saint Vincent returns home on Tuesday, March 20 for their 6:00 p.m. home opener against Empire-8 stronghold Elmira College, a fellow 2006 ECAC Upstate Semifinalist.
