Baseball splits twinbill with Penn State-Beaver on day two of Spring Training trip
Prestopino connects for monster home run; Schor drives in three runs as Dolphins improve to 1-3; Swarthmore next
3/13/2007 - (Fort Pierce, Florida) - Junior Al Schor (Norwalk, CT/Brien McMahon HS) had another solid day at the plate and the Dolphin pitching staff enjoyed an outstanding day on the mound as the Mount Saint Vincent Baseball team split a doubleheader with Penn State-Beaver, losing the opening game 7-4 and winning the nightcap 9-4 on Tuesday during games played at Fort Pierce, Florida as part of the Mount's Spring Training trip. With the split, Mount Saint Vincent is now 1-3.

The opening game saw sophomore pitcher Nathan Todd (Holyoke, MA/Holyoke HS) enjoy a solid outing as he pitched four solid innings, and Schor and junior Tanner Munroe (Milford, CT/Foran HS) combined for four hits with Munroe driving in two runs, but the Dolphins allowed a late Penn State-Beaver rally to fall to 0-3. Todd enjoyed by far the best performance of his career during a losing effort against a very good Penn State-Beaver team.

The loss during the opener set up a thriller for game two as Mount Saint Vincent rallied twice to earn their first win of 2007. Up 3-1 in the third inning, junior Vinny Prestopino (Bronx, NY/Salesian) connected for the first home run of his career, a two-run monster blast to put the Mount up 5-1. After Penn State-Beaver rallied to make it 5-4, the Mount scored four times in the bottom of the sixth inning to extend the lead to five runs. The key hit was a two-run single by junior Scott Taylor (Jersey City, NJ/St. Peters College). Junior Anthony Palandro (Westbury, NY/Clarke HS) earned the win with a terrific effort on the mound, and junior Zach Munroe (Milford, CT/Foran HS) was terrific in relief. Schor drove in three runs, while freshmen Anthony Brestolli (Wyckoff, NY/Don Bosco) and Joe Blackford (Stewartsville, NJ/Warren Hills Regional HS) combined for five hits.

Mount Saint Vincent returns to action on Wednesday, March 14 when they face Swarthmore College at 12:30 p.m.
