Baseball drops season-opening games during Spring Training trip to Fort Pierce, Florida
Schor has monster game during season opener; Dolphins return to action with twinbill against Penn-State Beaver on Monday
3/11/2007 - (Fort Pierce, Florida) - The first two games of the 2007 baseball season proved to be a challenge for the Mount Saint Vincent Baseball team as the Dolphins dropped the opening games of their Spring Training trip to Fort Pierce, Florida, 15-7 to Penn State-Behrend and 20-5 to Kenyon College, both of which were games that required late rallies by the opposing team to pull away from a pesky Mount Saint Vincent squad. Facing some of the best competition they will face all season long during their southern swing, Mount Saint Vincent returns to action on Monday, March 12 when they face Penn State-Beaver at 12:30 p.m. for a doubleheader.

During the opening game, junior Al Schor (Norwalk, CT/Brien McMahon HS) had one of the finest games of his career as he went 2 for 5 with four RBI's and two runs scored. His dramatic seventh inning home run made it 8-6 Penn State-Behrend and it appeared as if a classic finish was imminent. However, Penn State-Behrend rallied to score seven of the game's final eight runs to clinch the win. The loss overshadowed an incredible pitching performance by freshman Joe Blackford (Stewartsville, NJ/Warren Hills Regional HS), who came on in relief in the fourth inning and pitched 4 1/3 near outstanding innings, allowing the Mount to register the comeback. While Blackford ran out of steam during the later innings and allowed two runs, his overall commanding performance bodes well for an already outstanding Mount Saint Vincent bullpen.

Also for Mount Saint Vincent, sophomore Josh Cuozzo (Westbury, NY/Clarke HS) went 2 for 4 with an RBI and a run scored, and junior Eddie Park (Westbury, NY/Clarke HS) made the defensive play of the game with an over-the-shoulder catch that robbed a Penn State-Behrend player of at least an extra base hit during the fifth inning.

The second game saw the Mount fall to one of the strongest programs in the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC), during which sophomore Nick Triolo (Homer, NY/Homer Central HS) went 2 for 3 with an RBI, and sophomore Joe Motta (Brooklyn, NY/Xaverian) went 1 for 1 with two runs scored.

Mount Saint Vincent is in Fort Pierce, Florida for the third straight season and will play their first seven games of the 2007 season down south before heading home to begin Skyline Conference play.
