Men's Lacrosse crushes Briarcliffe College 15-2 for first win of 2007
Reynolds scores career-high five goals, Holland adds six points as MSV improves to 1-2; Dolphins return to Skyline Conference play on Tuesday with trip to Stevens
3/10/2007 - (Bethpage, NY) - Freshman Russ Holland (Brooklyn, NY/Westminster) broke out for the finest game of his career with three goals and three assists, and junior Jason Reynolds (Centereach, NY/Middle Country HS) scored a career-high five goals as the Mount Saint Vincent Men's Lacrosse team routed Briarcliffe College, 15-2 on Saturday a game played at Briarcliffe College. With the win, Mount Saint Vincent improves to 1-2 for the 2007 season as the Dolphins showed significant improvement for their third consecutive game.

The game was actually a thriller into the second half as Mount Saint Vincent took a 1-0 lead with 33 seconds remaining in the opening stanza as junior Marco Segna (Mount Vernon, NY/Mount Saint Michael) scored his first goal of the season, an extra man goal off of an assist by sophomore Billy Downes (Barkhamstead, CT/Northwest Catholic). Downes finished the game with a career-high three assists. The lead would extend to 3-1 at halftime as junior Stan Wong (Merrick, NY/Calhoun HS) and sophomore Ryan O'Dougherty (Morristown, NJ/Morristown HS) scored during the final five minutes of the second quarter, including an O'Dougherty tally with 13 seconds to play in the half, to break a 1-1 tie. While the Mount carried play during the first 30 minutes, the game was a close one.

That would change in the third quarter as the Dolphins exploded for six goals to blow the game wide open as Holland and Reynolds led the way. Reynolds scored four times during the third quarter, while Holland had a goal and an assist during the stretch to extend the lead to 9-1, and the Dolphins cruised from there. Overall, Mount Saint Vincent outshot Briarcliffe, 55-6 and won 15 of the game's 21 face-offs to give the Dolphin defense a much-needed break.

Also having big games for the Mount were Downes, who finished with four points, and Wong, who scored twice.

Mount Saint Vincent returns to action on Tuesday, March 13 when they travel to Stevens for a 4:00 p.m. opening face-off with the Skyline Conference powerhouse.
