Men's Basketball outscores Golden Eagles in second half, but lose 76-61
Charlton scores 18 points, Garlan adds 11, Dolphins outscore SJC 43-42 during second half
2/10/2007 - (Patchogue, NY) - Junior Derek Charlton (Yonkers, NY/St. Raymond's) scored 18 points and added eight rebounds, and freshman Kevin Garlan (Jackson Heights, NY/Archbishop Molloy) added 11 points and seven rebounds, but the Mount Saint Vincent Men's Basketball team could not overcome an early deficit en route to a 76-61 loss to St. Joseph's (LI) on Saturday during a game played at St. Joseph's. With the loss, Mount Saint Vincent falls to 3-20 overall and 1-13 in Skyline Conference play.
 
Junior Derek Charlton scores 18 points and grabbed eight rebounds but the Mount Saint Vincent Men's Basketball team lost 76-61 on Saturday to St. Joseph's (LI). The Dolphins return home for their 2006-07 home finale on Wednesday when they host Old Westbury at 7:00 p.m.

The game was a barn-burner for much of the first half, and midway through the opening stanza, the Mount found themselves ahead, 13-11 after a Russ Holland (Brooklyn, NY/Westminster) jumper with 10:36 remaining. However, from there, the Golden Eagles went on a 16-2 run to go up by double-digits, and St. Joseph's would stay there for the rest of the game. St. Joseph's led 34-18 at halftime. The Golden Eagles would lead by as many as 23 points with 8:59 to play, but Mount Saint Vincent rallied to make things closer. The Dolphins shot 34% during the final 20 minutes after shooting only 26% during the first half, allowing them to outscore the Golden Eagles during the stretch.

Overall, the Mount played a solid game, turning the ball over only 12 times while grabbing 40 rebounds. In addition to Charlton and Garlan having solid games, freshmen Lester Owens (Manalapan, NJ/Manalapan HS) and Holland also enjoyed fine performances as Owens scored eight points and had two steals, while Holland scored nine points and added six rebounds.

Mount Saint Vincent concludes the 2006-07 season this week with a home game against Old Westbury on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. and a trip to Farmingdale State on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
