2/7/2007 - (Riverdale, NY) - Freshman Karissa Koerner (Bay Shore, NY/Brentwood HS) registered her first career double-double with 21 points and 10 rebounds, and junior Kaitlin Burud (Red Hook, NY/Red Hook HS) added 19 points and a game-high seven steals as the Mount Saint Vincent Women's Basketball team downed the College of New Rochelle, 59-26 on Wednesday during a game played at Mount Saint Vincent. With the win, Mount Saint Vincent captured the 2006-07 HVWAC Regular Season Championship after finishing conference play with a 4-0 record during which the Dolphins' average margin of victory was 31.25 per game. Mount Saint Vincent will be the #1 seed for the upcoming HVWAC playoffs that begin on Feb. 15.
Mount Saint Vincent captured the 2006-07 HVWAC Regular Season Championship after finishing conference play with a 4-0 record and an incredible 31.25 point per game average margin of victory. The Dolphins will be the #1 seed for the HVWAC playoffs that begin on Feb. 15.

While a 33-point win suggests an easy night for the Mount, that clearly was not the case as CNR made things quite difficult for the Dolphins during the early going. A Ruchelle Austin (Brooklyn, NY/Sheepshead Bay HS) lay-up with 5:45 remaining in the first half made it an 18-10 MSV lead, but Mount Saint Vincent scored 10 of the first half's final 14 points (including the last five points) to take a 28-14 lead at the break. Mount Saint Vincent then scored the first 12 points of the second half to put the game out of reach.

The Dolphins won the game with defense, forcing CNR to convert only nine of their 57 field goal attempts, and the Blue Angels committed 33 turnovers as well. Austin had a monster night for CNR, scoring 17 points and adding 10 rebounds, but the rest of the team scored only nine points. CNR enjoyed a 55-41 rebounding edge, allowing the Blue Angels to keep the game close for a while.

The game solidifies the seedings for the upcoming HVWAC tournament. #5 CNR and #4 Yeshiva will meet in the Quarterfinal round on Feb. 15 with the winner facing Mount Saint Vincent on Saturday Feb. 17 in the semifinals. The other Semifinal round will see #2 St. Joseph's face #3 Saint Elizabeth. Both semifinal games will be played at the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York. Tip-off times will be announced shortly.
