JV Basketball edges Culinary Institute of America for second win during last three games
Weekend action ends with JV Hoops home battle with HVMAC leading Bears
2/3/2007 - (Riverdale, NY) - Freshman Ralph Kube (West Babylon, NY/West Babylon HS) scored 13 points, all during the second half, and pulled down seven rebounds, senior Kareem Wright (Bronx, NY/Cardinal Hayes) scored a team-high 18 points and dished out six assists, and the Mount Saint Vincent defense held during a furious final-minute rally as the Mount's JV Basketball team won for the second time during its last three games, 71-68 over the Culinary Institute of America on Saturday during a game played at Mount Saint Vincent. With the win, Mount Saint Vincent improves to 5-11 overall. The Dolphins return to action on Sunday when they host HVMAC leading St. Joseph's (Brooklyn) at 12:00 p.m.

The game seemed destined to be a dramatic change from a Jan. 14 game between the two teams during which the Mount scored a 71-54 win as Culinary came out firing and held an early seven-point lead. From there, the game turned into a battle as the game was tied 39-39 at halftime, and the Mount held a five-point lead early in the second half before Culinary rallied to make things interesting. The game was tied 61-61 with just under four minutes remaining when a spectactular slam-dunk basket by freshman Deveron Greaves (Brooklyn, NY/Grand Street Campus HS) gave the Dolphins a 63-61 lead that turned into a 69-61 lead 90 seconds later.

Culinary battled back to make it 71-68 and had the ball for the final minute of play, but three separate three-point attempts fell short, and the Mount held on for the season sweep of CIA.

Greaves finished with 13 points and nine rebounds.
