JV Basketball loses 61-58 heartbreaker to Cannoneers in HVMAC battle
Late rally falls just short as Pratt scores game's final three points; Kube: 26 points, 8 rebounds; Wright/Greaves: 10 points each
1/22/2007 - (Brooklyn, NY) - Freshman Ralph Kube (West Babylon, NY/West Babylon HS) tied his career-high with 26 points and added eight rebounds, and senior Kareem Wright (Bronx, NY/Cardinal Hayes) and Deveron Greaves (Brooklyn, NY/Grand Street Campus) each scored 10 points, but the Mount Saint Vincent JV Basketball team lost what was easily the team's most exciting game of the 2006-07 season, 61-58 to Hudson Valley Men's Athletic Conference (HVMAC) rival Pratt Institute on Monday night during a game played at the Pratt Institute. With the loss, Mount Saint Vincent is now 4-11 overall and 0-4 in HVMAC play.

The tone was set early that this would be one of the most exciting HVMAC games of the season as the teams went back and forth and then some during the first half that saw several ties and lead changes. Ultimately, Pratt led 33-32 at halftime and the second half would prove to be a thriller. Down 58-50 with 3:00 to play, Mount Saint Vincent went into a full-court press, and the strategy worked. The Dolphins went on an 8-0 run to tie the score with less than a minute to play. And when Pratt (4-10, 1-2 HVMAC) converted only one out of two free throw attempts, the Dolphins had the ball and the last shot to win the game during the final 15 seconds of play.

Unfortunately, the game-winning shot never came to fruition as the Mount turned the ball over with 10 seconds left in the game, allowing Pratt two free throws, which they converted for the three-point margin of victory.

Kube was outstanding once again, as he scored 13 points during the second half, several of which came during the 8-0 run to tie the game. Wright not only scored 10 points, but added five assists, while Greaves had eight rebounds.

Mount Saint Vincent now has a long break between games, but returns to action during the first weekend in February for back-to-back home games. On Saturday, Feb. 3 the Dolphins host the Culinary Institute of America. The next day, the Mount hosts St.. Joseph's (Brooklyn) at noon.
