The Dolphins came out swinging as Charlton registered 10 points, two rebounds, and an assist during the first 7:03 as Mount Saint Vincent opened a 16-9 lead, but from there Mount Saint Mary (4-9, 1-3 Skyline Conference) blew the game wide open. A 26-4 Blue Knight run over the next nine minutes gave Mount Saint Mary a 17-point lead. A late Dolphin run made it 40-30 at halftime, and an 8-3 Mount Saint Vincent run to open the second half brought the Dolphins to within five with 16:32 to play, but Mount Saint Mary proved to be too much down the stretch. The Blue Knights shot 49% during the second half of play and 43% for the game, and they forced 26 Dolphin turnovers while commiting only 17. Mount Saint Mary senior Mike Hoyt (Florida, NY/S.S. Seward) scored a game-high 43 points, including a 12 for 14 effort from the free-throw line, while sophomore Chris Harrison (Baldwin, NY/Holy Trinity) notched a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
For Mount Saint Vincent, aside from Charlton's heroics, freshman Lester Owens (Manalapan, NJ/St. Joseph's-Metuchen) dished out a career-high tying six assists, and eight different Dolphins registered points.
Mount Saint Vincent returns to action on Saturday, Jan. 13 when they travel to Maritime College for the "Battle of the Bronx" at 1:00 p.m.
