Mount Saint Vincent junior Derek Charlton was named to the PrestoSports/MBWA Honor Roll after averaging 22.3 points and nine rebounds per game against three teams that participated in the NCAA Tournament a year ago last week. Mount Saint Vincent returns home for the first time in 2007 on Wednesday night when they host Mount Saint Mary at 7:00 p.m.
ng 22.3 points and nine rebounds per game for the week, Charlton was named to the PrestoSports/Metropolitan Basketball Writers' Association (MBWA) Honor Roll, marking the first time during his career he has been honored by the MBWA. Charlton's statistical week was a terrific week by just about any standards, but considering that all three games were against teams that participated in the 2006 NCAA Tournament, his numbers were downright unbelievable.

Charlton's week began with a 21-point, 10-rebound effort against undefeated NYU, who defeated the Mount, 86-47 on Tuesday. Despite giving up several inches in height to a much bigger NYU team, Charlton had a solid outing against perhaps the toughest team on the Mount Saint Vincent schedule. Three nights later, Mount Saint Vincent squared off with Liberty League powerhouse Union College at the Sig Makofski Tournament at Union, and Charlton erupted for a career-high 26 points on 10 for 19 shooting, including a 3 for 5 effort from three point range, and Mount Saint Vincent went toe-to-toe with Union, losing 82-74. The next day, against Elms College, Charlton notched his second double-double of the week, scoring 20 points and grabbing 12 rebounds as the Mount played outstanding basketball once again during a 91-78 loss to the Blazers. For his efforts, Charlton was named to the All-Tournament team of the Sig Makofski Tournament.

For the 2006-07 season, Charlton leads Mount Saint Vincent in both scoring (17.6 points per game) and rebounding (7.9 rebounds per game) after averaging 7.5 points and 5.1 rebounds per game a year ago.

Mount Saint Vincent is currently 1-10 overall and 0-3 in Skyline Conference play. They will look to break a nine-game losing streak on Wednesday night when they host Mount Saint Mary at 7:00 p.m.
