Summary of Position

Working under the direct supervision of the Network Administrator, the candidate will aid in the maintenance, troubleshooting and expansion of the College’s network and in support of various types of users on a variety of operating systems and environments.

 

Reports To:

            Network Manager

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide courteous, responsive service to the College Community

 

  • Aid in monitoring network traffic, health and security

 

  • Troubleshoot network related problems and recommend or perform remedial actions to correct failed services.

 

  • Responsible for, monitor and perform backup and restore procedures.

 

  • Aid in administering anti virus central servers and delivery to workstations.

 

  • Aid in maintaining the Virtual Local Area Networks (VLAN’s) changing switch configurations appropriately upon equipment moves and additions to the network, maintaining proper access rights.

 

  • Perform minor wiring of connections

 

  • Be responsible for labeling all ports and network equipment and for organizing switch closets to achieve optimum environmental conditions and faster access for troubleshooting. Keep inventory of all network equipment up to date.

 

  • Create user accounts for network applications and assign appropriate rights to users

 

  • Respond to user inquiries concerning systems operation and access problems. Diagnoses system hardware, software, and operator problems and help users by instructing them about proper usage

 

  • Contributes to and maintains documentation of configurations, procedures and disaster recovery.

 

  • Aid in performing upgrades and updates of the network software and hardware.

 

  • Work with the Help Desk as the need arises

 

  • Work to support computer labs as the need arises

 

  • Support Campus-wide Telephone System

 

Requirements

This is an entry level position.  Candidates must be innovative, creative, flexible, and able to follow directions.  Must be excited to learn new technologies and apply them.  Candidate must have a background in Computer Science or Electrical Engineering.  Experience working in an academic setting, basic network administration (Linux), and basic programming/scripting are a strong plus.
