12/9/2006 - (Riverdale, NY) - Three days after one of their most disappointing outings of the 2006-07 season, the Mount Saint Vincent Men's Basketball team took to the court on Saturday and, despite losing to the defending Skyline Conference Champions, Farmingdale State, put forth an effort that can only be described as enouraging as the Dolphins enter the 2007 portion of their schedule. Sophomore Tim Biolsi scored scored 20 points and added five rebounds and five assists, but the Mount Saint Vincent Men's Basketball team lost despite a valiant effort against defending Skyline Conference champion Farmingdale State, 83-70 on Saturday afternoon.

e Mount fell to 1-7, 0-3 in Skyline Conference play with an 83-70 defeat.

Farmingdale State (4-1, 3-0 Skyline Conference) and their corps of outside shooters tried to pull away early as the Rams hit seven three-pointers during the first half of play and at one point led 25-17 late in the opening stanza. However, Mount Saint Vincent proved to be resilient and simply would not go away. A late 7-0 run by the Dolphins tied the score, and only a Damien Santana (Brooklyn, NY/Grady HS) three-pointer in the closing seconds gave the Rams a 34-31 lead after 20 minutes. 

Farmingdale came out of the gate smoking in the second half and led by as many as 18 points, however a 10-0 Mount Saint Vincent run made it 66-60 with 4:43 remaining in the game. However, that was as close as the Dolphins would get. The Rams hit 13 out of 14 free throw attempts during the final four minutes to extend the lead to 13.

Farmingdale State won the game on the boards and with their vaunted outside shooting game as the Rams enjoyed a 47-36 advantage in rebounds and connected on 12 three-point attempts, while the Mount hit only six. Junior Richard Riss (Tarrytown, NY/Archbishop Stepinac) led the Rams with 16 points, while junior Peter Lipka (Shelton, CT/Shelton HS) added 15 points and six rebounds.

For the Mount, Biolsi and Charlton enjoyed solid games, while freshman Kevin Garlan (Jackson Heights, NY/Archbishop Molloy) enjoyed one of the finest games of his career as he scored 12 points and added a team-high seven rebounds and five assists. He also blocked a shot.

Mount Saint Vincent returns to action on Jan. 2 when they travel to national powerhouse NYU for a 3:00 p.m. game.
