Dr. D'Anca is associate professor and the chair of the sociology department. He completed doctoral studies at Fordham University. Prior to coming to the College of Mount Saint Vincent in 2000, he served in the Federal Criminal Justice System as a U.S. probation officer.

Dr. D'Anca's professional and research interests include the nature of crime and criminal behavior, and systems of social control. He explores the relationship between religion and criminology, as well as institutional influences on human behavior.

Among the courses that Dr. D'Anca teaches are Criminology (SOC 309), Law and Society (SOC 364), Current Controversies in Criminal Justice (SOC 369), the Senior Thesis for sociology majors (SOC 416), as well as a Freshman Honors Seminar (HONR 101).

Dr. Dale C. Patrias

Dr. Patrias is associate professor of sociology. He completed his doctoral studies at New York University. He has been teaching at the College of Mount Saint Vincent since 1976.

Dr. Patrias' professional and research interests include three major areas; deviant behavior and criminology; sociology of the family; and sociological theories, including the historical development of sociology as an academic discipline. His main research interest has been in secret behavior.

Among the courses that Dr. Patrias teaches are: Social Problems (SOC 301), Race and Ethnicity (SOC 302), The Family (SOC 306), Juvenile Delinquency (SOC 308), and Sociological Theories (SOC 324).

Dr. Omar Nagi

Dr. Nagi was born and raised in Columbus, Ohio. He received his BA in economics at the American University in Cairo and his PhD at the University at Albany. He has been at the College of Mount Saint Vincent since the fall of 2005.


His areas of interest and research include economic sociology, international development, and methodology.

He teaches classes in research methodology, gender, organizational studies, and urban sociology.
