Thrice as nice: Men's Basketball's Marquise King named Skyline Conference Rookie of the Week for the third straight week
Freshman averages 24.3 points, 3.0 steals, and 2.7 rebounds per game; remains second in Skyline Conference in scoring
12/4/2006 - (Riverdale, NY) - Mount Saint Vincent Men's Basketball freshman Marquise King (Albany, NY/Albany HS) was named Skyline Conference Rookie of the Week for the third consecutive week after another incredible stretch. Despite an 0-3 record for the Mount, the Dolphins played competitively against three of the strongest teams on their schedule, losing games to Hunter, Lehman, and Yeshiva that all went right down to the wire ... and King shined once again throughout the week.

After scoring 17 points and adding six steals as Mount Saint Vincent lost 99-80 to Hunter on Monday night (after trailing only 47-44 at halftime), King scored 21 points and added five rebounds and three steals as Mount Saint Vincent fell to Lehman, 60-57 on Wednesday in a heartbreaker when a Lehman player banked a half-court shot into the basket at the final buzzer to beat the Mount. Three nights later, King enjoyed one of his finest performances of the season during the Mount's Skyline Conference opener with Yeshiva when he scored 35 points (on 14 for 20 shooting) as Mount Saint Vincent lost 88-78 during a game that was far closer than the score indicated as it was tied with 4:51 remaining.

For the 2006-07 season, King is averaging 25.3 points per game - second best in the Skyline Conference - and is the only rookie in the conference currently rated in the top-20 in scoring. He is also tied for second in the conference in three-point shooting. During six games, King has scored at least 20 points four times, and has broken the 30-point mark three times. The only game he scored below 17 points was a 101-76 win over Mitchell College on Nov. 18.

Mount Saint Vincent is currently 1-5 overall and 0-1 in Skyline Conference play after Saturday's loss to Yeshiva. The coming week is a huge one for the Mount as the Dolphins compete for the final two times in 2006, both home games against Skyline Conference competition. On Wednesday night, the Mount hosts Centenary at 8:00 p.m. during the back-end of a doubleheader with the Mount Saint Vincent Women's team. On Saturday, the Dolphins host defending Skyline Conference Champion Farmingdale State at 1:00 p.m.
