Sarah Lawrence captures second consecutive HVWAC Swimming Championship
Gryphons dominate with 499 total points, Gryphons' 200 medley team break meet record; SLC's Schneider/Purchase College's Brennan break records as well
12/1/2006 - (Bronxville, NY) - For the second consecutive season, the Sarah Lawrence College Women's Swimming team swept the Hudson Valley Women's Athletic Conference regular season and post-season championships, winning Friday night's championship meet by an overwhelming margin, outscoring runner-up Purchase College 499-336 en route to the title. The Gryphons earned a total of 19 medals during the 14 events, including two meet records. A total of three records fell on Friday night during the event held at Sarah Lawrence College.
Sarah Lawrence captured the 2006 HVWAC Swimming Championships with a commanding performance on Friday night that included 499 team points and 19 medals. The Gryphons broke two championship meet records as well to win the championship for the second straight season.

The Gryphons set the stage immediately for what would turn out to be an incredible evening of swimming as the Sarah Lawrence 200-yard medley relay team of Hannah Palmer, Emily Kollars, Alex Brostoff, and Rachel Schneider not only won the opening event, but broke the HVWAC championship meet record with a time of 2:10.18. From there, the rout was on as Schneider broke the HVWAC championship meet record in the 100-IM with a time of 1:10.66. Sarah Lawrence captured first place in nine events, including both relay events.

Purchase College, who finished third during the regular season had an incredible night as well and hung tough with Sarah Lawrence most of the night. The Panthers captured 11 medals, including two by Janine Brennan, who broke the HVWAC championship meet record in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:21.01. Purchase also finished second in both relay events.

Mount Saint Vincent - the 2004 and 2005 runner-up - finished third with 246 total points. The Dolphins earned six medals, including a first place finish by freshman Michelle Cabahug in the 50-yard backstroke, and third place finishes in both relay events.

Rounding out the championship meet were Saint Elizabeth (166), New Rochelle (153), and Marymount College (61).
