His performances thus far have been on par with that of seasoned veterans, not rookies trying to learn the college game. After earning All-Tournament at the Eastern Connecticut Tip-off Tournament two weeks ago, King took to the floor against SUNY IT on Tuesday and broke the 30-point mark for the second time during three games this season. His 35 points led all scorers against a Wildcat team that advanced to the SUNYAC Championship Game a year ago and is expected to once again be a force in one of the most competitive conferences in the nation again this season, as Mount Saint Vincent fell 101-76 during a game that was far closer than the score indicated.
King was simply incredible as his 35 points included seven three-pointers, a 14 for 25 performance from the floor, and four rebounds. The scoring effort tied King for the eighth best single-game performance in Mount Saint Vincent history. Not bad for an individual playing on his home court for the first time, ever.
King already owns the seventh-best single-game scoring effort in the history of the Mount Saint Vincent Men's Basketball program as he scored 36 points against Eastern Connecticut State to open the season on Nov. 17. For the season, King is averaging 26.3 points per game to rank third among the scoring leaders in the Skyline Conference. Only one other freshman is ranked in the top-20 in scoring in the Conference as Mount Saint Mary's David Lonnay is ranked 20th with 13.3 points per game. King is also among the leaders in three-point shooting.
Mount Saint Vincent returns to action this week against two of the top teams in the strong CUNYAC as the Mount hosts Hunter College on Monday night at 7:00 p.m. before traveling to Lehman College on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. The Dolphins open Skyline Conference play on Saturday at 8:00 p.m. when they host Yeshiva.
