11/21/2006 - (Riverdale, NY) - It's hard to believe it, but he's three games into his Mount Saint Vincent career and freshman Marquise King (Albany, NY/Albany HS) just scored 35 points and the effort was not a career-high. During another outstanding performance, King - this week's Skyline Conference Rookie of the Week after scoring 36 points during his collegiate debut last Friday at Eastern Connecticut State - scored 35 points on 14 for 25 shooting (including 7 for 11 from three-point range) and added four rebounds, but the Mount Saint Vincent Men's Basketball team lost 101-76 on Tuesday night to 2006 SUNY AC Finalist SUNY Institute of Technology (SUNY IT) during a game played at Mount Saint Vicnent. With the loss, the Dolphins fall to 1-2 for the 2006 season.

Against a veteran team that was one win from the NCAA Tournament a year ago in one of the most competitive conferences in the country, Mount Saint Vincent battled back from an early 7-0 deficit and went toe-to-toe with SUNY IT for the first eight minutes of play. The Wildcats (2-1) ultimately pulled away midway through the first half with a 19-4 run that put SUNY IT ahead 40-22 en route to a 49-36 halftime lead. SUNY IT shot an incredible 58% from the floor during the first half while Mount Saint Vincent struggled on the offensive end at times, hitting only 43% of their shots. King scored 17 of Mount Saint Vincent's 36 first half points.

The second half saw SUNY IT go on an 8-0 run to start things to make it a 21-point lead, but for much of the half the play was even. King, and junior Derek Charlton (Yonkers, NY/St. Raymond's), who scored 17 points and added eight rebounds and four assists, had little trouble scoring, but it seemed like every time Mount Saint Vincent made a run, SUNY IT made one of their own. Overall the Wildcats outrebounded the Mount 45-32 and outshot the Dolphins 55%-46%, but it was certainly never easy for SUNY IT.

Also having a big night for Mount Saint Vincent was freshman Kevin Garlan (Jackson Heights, NY/Archbishop Molloy), who scored 10 points and added a team-high nine rebounds.

For SUNY IT (2-1), four players scored in double figures as Antoine Gilkes scored 18 points and added nine rebounds, while Chris Leonard scored 17 points, and Chris Reaves 15 points and a game-high seven assists.

After the holiday break, Mount Saint Vincent returns to action on Monday, Nov. 27 when they host CUNY powerhouse Hunter College at 7:00 p.m.
