Against host Eastern Connecticut State on Friday, King scored an incredible 36 points on 13 for 17 shooting as the Dolphins rallied from a 23-point second half deficit to make it 72-68 with just under a minute remaining in the game. While the Mount would get no closer, the effort against a very good ECSU team was nothing short of sensational. King was the story as he scored 29 points during the second half, 23 of which came during the final 9:11 as Mount Saint Vincent made their rally. The output tied the record for points in a game at the 26 year-old tournament, marked the seventh best single-game scoring total in Mount Saint Vincent history, and was one of the finest individual performances in Dolphin history for any basketball player, let alone a freshman making his collegiate debut.
For his efforts, including an eight-point outing during a 101-76 win over Mitchell College on Saturday, King was named to the All-Tournament team for the ECSU Tip-off Tournament.
Also honored by the Skyline Conference this week was junior Derek Charlton (Yonkers, NY/St. Raymond's), who was named to the Honor Roll after two impressive outings during the ECSU Tip-off Tournament. During the 1-1 weekend, Charlton averaged 15.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, and 2.5 assists per game.
