HVMAC Basketball Tip-off Consolation Round: Cooper Union edges Mount Saint Vincent
Crimmins scores game-high 23 points as Hawks survive Valiant second half comeback by MSV
11/19/2006 - (Riverdale, NY) - Junior Tommy Crimmins (Staten Island, NY/St. Peters) scored a game-high 23 points and added seven rebounds, 13 of his points and six rebounds coming during the second half of play, to lead Cooper Union to a 56-52 win over host Mount Saint Vincent during the consolation round of the Hudson Valley Men's Athletic Conference (HVMAC) Basketball Tip-off Tournament held at Mount Saint Vincent. With the win, the Hawks improve to 2-1 for the 2006-07 season while Mount Saint Vincent fell to 0-5.

Cooper Union came out strong as they shot 40% during the first half and at one point led by as many as 15 points before Mount Saint Vincent finally settled in and made a comeback. The Hawks led 27-18 at halftime and extended their lead to as many as 15 late in the second half, before a fantastic finish ensued. Cooper Union led 50-35 with 5:28 remaining, but Mount Saint Vincent went on an 8-2 run to make things interesting. Mount Saint Vincent scored the game's final four points to keep it close.

Mount Saint Vincent made things close thanks to a terrific second half by senior Kareen Wright (Bronx, NY/Cardinal Spellman) who scored 11 points and added nine rebounds during the final 20 minutes. Wright finished with a double-double, as did freshman Ralph Kube (New Hyde Park, NY/New Hyde Park HS) who earned All-Tournament honors after a 25-point, 10-rebound effort for his third double-double of the 2006-07 season.

For Cooper Union, junior Evan Canfield (Columbia, CT/Windham HS) scored 14 points and added nine rebounds, while junior Robert Markowicz (Siemiatycze, Poland,/Stuyvesant HS) grabbed 10 rebounds. The Hawks enjoyed a 50-36 rebounding edge, and shot 45% from the floor for the game.

Crimmins and Kube earned All-Tournament honors for their efforts. Crimmins averaged 23 points and seven rebounds per game, while Kube averaged 25 points and 10 rebounds per game.
