Men's Basketball flattens Mitchell College 101-76 in consolation round of Eastern Connecticut Tip-off Tournament
Charlton/Garlan combine for 41 points on 16 for 18 shooting; Dolphins shoot 59% from floor; King named to All-Tournament team
11/18/2006 - (Williamantic, CT) - Junior Derek Charlton (Yonkers, NY/St. Raymond's) scored 22 points, and freshman Kevin Garlan (Jackson Heights, NY/Archbishop Molloy) added 19 points as both shot 8 for 9 from the floor as the Mount Saint Vincent Men's Basketball team claimed third place in the 26th annual Eastern Connecticut Tip-off Tournament with a 101-76 win over Mitchell College on Saturday. With the win, the Mount improves to 1-1 for the 2006 season after losing 75-69 during a thriller with host Eastern Connecticut State on Friday night.

Unlike Friday night when the Dolphins struggled to shoot from the opening tip-off, Saturday was a different story as the Mount had the hot hands throughout the afternoon. The Mount led 51-32 at halftime as Charlton scored all 22 of his points over the first 20 minutes, and in fact he did not try a field goal attempt after the first half. Mount Saint Vincent shot nearly 59% from the floor during the opening half and a 7-6 lead at with 16:49 remaining in the opening half turned into a 16-6 lead two minutes later. Mitchell (0-2) battled back to make it 20-17 with 10:32 left in the half and 27-24 two minutes later, but a 10-0 run blew things wide open and the Dolphins cruised from there.

Overall, Mount Saint Vincent shot 59% from the floor, compared to Mitchell's 38% and the Dolphins enjoyed a 41-31 rebounding edge.

Freshman Deveron Greaves (Brooklyn, NY/Grand Street Campus HS) scored 12 points and sophomore Tim Biolsi (Bronx, NY/Cardinal Spellman) added 10 points. Overall, 10 different Dolphins scored points and each also added a rebound.

Freshman Marquise King (Albany, NY/Albany HS) was named to the All-Tournament team after averaging more than 20 points per game, including a 36-point outing against Eastern Connecticut State on Friday night.

Mount Saint Vincent returns to action on Tuesday, Nov. 21 for the 2006-07 home opener when they host SUNY IT at 7:00 p.m.
