Gentsch, Osorio named to Skyline Conference All-Conference team for Women's Soccer
Duo join Alessi on HVWAC All-Conference team; Dolphins finish 2006 season 7-8-1
11/13/2006 - (Riverdale, NY) - Three members of the Mount Saint Vincent Women's Soccer team earned All-Conference honors this season after another successful year in which Mount Saint Vincent finished 7-8-1, advanced to the Hudson Valley Women's Athletic Conference (HVWAC) Championship Game, and earned seven team points in Skyline Conference play, marking one of the best Conference seasons in Mount Saint Vincent history. Juniors Katherine Gentsch (Staten Island, NY/Curtis HS) and Cynthia Osorio (Oceanside, NY/Oceanside HS) were honored by both the Skyline Conference and HVWAC, while fellow junior Alexis Alessi (Rockville Centre, NY/Oceanside HS) was honored by the HVWAC.

Gentsch, a forward, earned second-team All-Conference from the Skyline Conference and All-Conference from the HVWAC as well after leading the Mount with 12 goals and 26 total points. 2006 marked the second straight year that Gentsch was honored by both conferences as she finished third in the Conference in points per game and second in goals despite being shadowed by opponents during almost every game. Gentsch's 2006 highlights included three hat-tricks and two game-winning goals.

Osorio, a defender, enjoyed another terrific season for the Mount, earning All-Conference from the Skyline Conference for the second straight year and from the HVWAC for her third consecutive season. Osorio, the backbone of the Mount Saint Vincent defense, led the Dolphins to four shutouts, and nine games where the Mount allowed two goals or less.

Alessi, a goalie who has played nearly every team minute for the last three years, was spectacular throughout the 2006 campaign, making 121 total saves, and she made at least 10 saves during six different games. At one point, Alessi went 604:30 without allowing a goal and was a huge reason why the Mount began the season 4-0. She also saved her best for last as during a 2-1 double overtime win over Medgar Evers in the HVWAC Semifinals on Nov. 2 she stopped 14 out of 15 shots.

Despite fielding one of the youngest teams in either Conference, Mount Saint Vincent has a 17-15-1 record during the last two seasons under the guidance of Head Coach Tony Elmore. With all but three players returning for the 2007 season, optimism is high that the Dolphins will continue to make progress with a line-up full of veteran players.
