Pratt sprints to 2006 HVWAC Cross Country Championship
Cannoneers earn top-two individual finishes en route to close win over Mount Saint Vincent; Evans Coach of the Year
11/10/2006 - (Riverdale, NY) - The Pratt Institute is the 2006 Hudson Valley Women's Athletic Conference Cross Country Champion after a thrilling win over Mount Saint Vincent on Friday at Van Cortlandt Park. The Cannoneers earned the top two finishes and finished with 24 team points, 13 points ahead of Mount Saint Vincent. Medgar Evers finished third with 65 points, while St. Joseph's College finished in fourth place with 120 points. Cooper Union entered an individual runner but was not eligible for the team championship.

Pratt's Lauren Trickle and Carrianne Blain set the tone for the day as they crossed the finish line a mere second apart, 22:11 and 22:12, respectively. The duo finished a full two minutes ahead of the nearest competition as Mount Saint Vincent's Teresa Escobar finished in third place despite a severely sprained ankle in a time of 24:02 while Erin Davies of Mount Saint Vincent finished fourth at 24:10. Pratt's Sarah Walsh rounded out the top-five in a time of 24:44.

The rest of the top-10 included Melissa Douglas of Medgar Evers (24:54), Renee Sawyer from Pratt (25:12), Amelia Box from Cooper Union (25:26), Erica Costanzo from Mount Saint Vincent (25:46), and Amanda Spradling from Pratt (26:50).

Winning the HVWAC Championship earned Head Coach Dalton Evans Coach of the Year honors as voted on by his coaching peers.
