10/26/2006 - (Convent Station, NJ) - Juniors Kaitlin Burud (Red Hook, NY/Red Hook HS) and Megan Fraino (New City, NY/Clarkstown South HS) scored outstanding wins in singles play, and the Dolphins doubles team of Jessica Lorenzen (Pembroke, NH/Pembroke Academy) and Karen Laurent (Queens, NY/St. John's Prep) captured an exciting win at second doubles, but the Mount Saint Vincent Women's tennis team closed out the 2006 season with a 6-3 loss to the College of Saint Elizabeth on Thursday during a match played at Saint Elizabeth. With the loss, Mount Saint Vincent finishes the 2006 season with a 4-7 overall record, and a 4-3 record in Hudson Valley Women's Athletic Conference (HVWAC) play that is good enough for a fourth place finish.

Doubles play started the contest, and it proved to be exciting. Burud, and freshman Noelle Ebbitts (Long Island, NY/Newfield HS) fell behind 6-0 during their match and battled back to make it 6-5 beofre losing the match 8-5 to a CSE doubles team that has lost only twice this season. The third doubles team of Fraino and Kathleen Nealon (Maspeth, NY/St. Francis Prep) enjoyed an outstanding match that they lost 8-4, before Lorenzen and Laurent put on the match of the day at second doubles. The duo went back and fourth with the Eagles' #2 team and the match went to a tie-breaker where Lorenzen and Laurent scored a 7-4 win for the match.

In singles play, Saint Elizabeth (10-3, 6-1 HVWAC) put the match away with four straight wins to open singles action, but the Mount wasn't finished there. Fraino scored an 8-4 win and Burud captured an 8-6 victory to make it a 6-3 match against the HVWAC regular season runner up.

Mount Saint Vincent returns to action on Sunday, Oct. 29 when they travel to the HVWAC Championships at the National Tennis Center in Queens, New York at 9:00 a.m.
