Women's Tennis defeats St. Joseph's (Brooklyn)
Ebbitts outstanding at first singles/doubles against SJC; Dolphins conclude 2006 regular season this week at CNR on Monday and at Saint Elizabeth on Thursday
10/22/2006 - (Riverdale, NY) - Freshman Noelle Ebbitts (Long Island, NY/Newfield HS) was undefeated in singles and doubles play and freshman Karen Laurent (Queens, NY/St. Johns Prep), junior Megan Fraino (New City, NY/Clarkstown South HS), and junior Carol Donnelly (Somerset, NJ/Sacred Heart) all scored huge singles wins as the Mount Saint Vincent Women's Tennis team swept a doubleheader of sorts on Sunday, scoring a 5-4 win over St. Joseph's (Brooklyn) as a match that was suspended on Oct. 13 was completed, and then downing Yeshiva 9-0 immediately afterwards as Mount Saint Vincent was awarded a forfeit win. With the wins, Mount Saint Vincent improves to 3-6 for the 2006 season and 3-2 in HVWAC play.

The match against St. Joseph's proved to be a thriller as Ebbitts and Laurent put the Dolphins in good position to win on Oct. 13, scoring 10-6 and 10-4 wins in first and second singles, respectively. However, St. Joseph's (Brooklyn) battled back to win the next two singles matches, 10-3 and 10-6 to even the match 2-2. Fraino and Donnelly scored 10-9 (7-1) and 10-5 wins at fifth and sixth singles to put the Dolphins ahead 4-2 after singles play, but the match had to be suspended due to darkness. Needing only one doubles win to secure the match on Sunday, Ebbitts and junior Kaitlin Burud (Red Hook, NY/Red Hook HS) scored an 8-4 win at first doubles to clinch the match. St. Joseph's scored wins at second and third doubles, but the results did not affect the match.

After the Mount's forfeit win over Yeshiva, the Dolphins are now in the top four in HVWAC play with two matches to go, a Monday contest at the College of New Rochelle, and a Thursday trip to the College of Saint Elizabeth, the Dolphins' final contest before next Sunday's HVWAC Championships at the National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows, New York.
