Dedvukaj continues to sizzle, but Women's Volleyball eliminated from Skyline playoff contention with 3-0 loss to Golden Eagles
Freshman registers double-double, Martinez adds nine kills; Dolphins fall to 10-8, 3-5 Skyline Conference
10/18/2006 - (Patchogue, NY) - Freshman Michelle Dedvukaj (Bronx, NY/St. Catherine), fresh off of being named Skyline Conference Rookie of the Week for the second time, registered her third double-double of 2006 with 12 kills and 13 digs, and sophomore Edeana Martinez (Bronx, NY/St. Catherine) added nine kills and two solo blocks, but the Mount Saint Vincent Women's Volleyball team fell to 10-8 and 3-5 in Skyline Conference play on Wednesday night with a 3-0 loss to St. Joseph's (LI) during a match played at St. Joseph's. With the loss, Mount Saint Vincent has been eliminated from contention for the Skyline Conference playoffs.

The match was far closer than the score indicated after the first game as the Golden Eagles (14-11, 2-1 Skyline Conference) breezed through the opener, 30-17. Mount Saint Vincent battled during the final two games, dropping the second game, 25-30, and then held a 25-20 lead during the third game before losing 29-31. A win would have put the Mount in fourth place in the Skyline Conference with barely over a week of conference competition remaining.

Dedvukaj was excellent has been the case this season, scoring 10 of her 12 kills during the final two games, while Martinez remained a force in the middle. However, the Mount hit only .140 for the match and registered only three blocks as a team.

Also enjoying outstanding matches were senior Roxanne Predergast (Center Moriches, NY/Westhampton Beach HS), who recorded a match-high 18 digs, and freshman Bridget Leonard (Poughkeepsie, NY/Lourdes), who amassed 15 assists.

Mount Saint Vincent returns to action on Friday as they compete in the Cougar Classic at Kean University. The Dolphins square off with USMMA-Kings Point and then Hunter College on Friday before meeting Brooklyn College and Kean on Saturday.
