The match was far closer than the score indicated after the first game as the Golden Eagles (14-11, 2-1 Skyline Conference) breezed through the opener, 30-17. Mount Saint Vincent battled during the final two games, dropping the second game, 25-30, and then held a 25-20 lead during the third game before losing 29-31. A win would have put the Mount in fourth place in the Skyline Conference with barely over a week of conference competition remaining.
Dedvukaj was excellent has been the case this season, scoring 10 of her 12 kills during the final two games, while Martinez remained a force in the middle. However, the Mount hit only .140 for the match and registered only three blocks as a team.
Also enjoying outstanding matches were senior Roxanne Predergast (Center Moriches, NY/Westhampton Beach HS), who recorded a match-high 18 digs, and freshman Bridget Leonard (Poughkeepsie, NY/Lourdes), who amassed 15 assists.
Mount Saint Vincent returns to action on Friday as they compete in the Cougar Classic at Kean University. The Dolphins square off with USMMA-Kings Point and then Hunter College on Friday before meeting Brooklyn College and Kean on Saturday.
