Women’s Cross Country finishes sixth at NYCCT Invitational; Men’s team continues to improve
Escobar/Charlton earn top-10 finishes; Dolphins head to St. Joseph’s on 10/21
10/8/2006 - (Riverdale, NY) – Junior Derek Charlton (Yonkers, NY/St. Raymond’s) and senior Teresa Escobar (Highland Falls, NY/O’Neill HS) headlined an outstanding effort by the Mount Saint Vincent Men’s and Women’s Cross Country teams on Sunday as the Mount competed at the NYCCT Invitational at Van Cortlandt Park.

The Men’s team did not place at the meet, but Charlton was one of several Dolphins to show improvement on Sunday, finishing with a personal best time of 31:36. Also running well for the Mount were freshmen Eric Lastres (Bayside, NY/Archbishop Molloy), who finished 43rd, and Jeff Hopkins who finished 49th.

Escobar had a phenomenal outing on Sunday, finishing the 6k course in a personal best time of 26:47.68, and along with Charlton received a medal. Also placing in the top-50 for the Dolphins were junior Erin Davies (Islip, NY/Islip HS), who finished 24th. Freshman Erica Costanzo (Center Barnstead, NH/Tilton School), who finished 28th, senior Sarah Sheridan (Hicksville, NY/Our Lady of Mercy), who finished 44th, and senior Danielle Trovato (North Huntington, PA/Greenberg Central Catholic) and freshman Nicole Foy (Levittown, NY/Division Ave. HS), who finished 46th and 47th, respectively.

Mount Saint Vincent will now enjoy a well-earned two week break as they gear up for the St. Joseph’s (LI) Invitational on Oct. 21 at 10:00 a.m. at Sunken Meadow State Park.
