Cross Country shows incredible improvement at Lehman College Invitational
Dolphins’ Women’s team finishes seventh behind Escobar’s efforts; Men finish 12th as Charlton enjoys fine race
10/1/2006 - (Riverdale, NY) – For the Mount Saint Vincent Men’s and Women’s Cross Country teams, the return home to Van Cortlandt Park on Sunday afternoon proved to be successful as the Dolphins finished seventh in the Women’s race and 12th in the Men’s race at the Lehman College Invitational. The meet was the Mount’s second of the 2006 season.

The Dolphin women placed seventh in the nine-team field, gaining 149 points that placed them a mere 10 points behind Baruch. The race was ultimately won by St. Joseph’s (LI). Enjoying another strong race for the Dolphins was senior Teresa Escobar (Highland Falls, NY/O’Neill HS), who finished the 6k race in eight place as she finished in 27:10.38. Also enjoying terrific results for the Dolphins were junior Erin Davies (Islip, NY/Islip HS), who earned a 30th place finish in 30:01.50, and senior Sarah Sheridan (Hicksville, NY/Our Lady of Mercy), who placed 45th in 32:47.07.

For the Mount Saint Vincent men, junior Derek Charlton (Yonkers, NY/St. Raymond’s) showed dramatic improvement this week, placing 21st overall out of more than 120 runners as he completed the course in 32:52.07. Freshmen Kevin Garlan (Jackson Heights, NY/Molloy) and Eric Lastres (Bayside, NY/Molloy) were also impressive finishing 76th and 77th, respectively, with times of 38:28.29 and 38:46.36.

Mount Saint Vincent returns to action on Sunday, Oct. 8 when they compete in the NYCCT Invitational at Van Cortlandt Park.
